A DANCE squad from the Dengie amazed street dance judges and won first prize at a prestigious national competition.

The senior competition team at Epic Dance Academy, from Burnham, competed in the Set4Set Street Dance Competition at Barking Broadway Theatre in London.

They faced off against 19 other dance crews from all over the country and won the top spot.

Teams are placed into pairs and given the same piece of music to choreograph their own routine.

Each pair then battles it out on the dancefloor and is judged on style, content, choreography, creativity and execution.

Academy principal Carlie Boler said: “This is the first time the senior team has competed at this event and we couldn’t be prouder of them all.

“The standard was very high and we are thrilled the team won their battle.”

The win marks the start of a busy year for the team, starting with the East London Street Dance Championships this weekend.

The team will also be performing at outdoor cinema events across Burnham and Maldon throughout the summer and will be heading to Disneyland Paris to perform on stage in August.
