Tickets are selling fast for a Mother’s Day event next month.

Stow Maries Aerodrome, in Purleigh, is putting on an afternoon tea event which also commemorates the role women played in the world wars.

On Sunday, March 31, the aerodrome celebrates the end of the RAF centenary year with the tribute to hard-working women during the war efforts.

A spokesman for the aerodrome said: “The afternoon begins at 2pm with your choice of traditional sherry or sparkling Prosecco on arrival.

“As you enjoy your relaxing lunch, Stow Maries vocal favourite Ann Barrett will serenade you with favourites such as The White Cliffs of Dover, Que Sera Sera, I Could Have Danced All Night and As Long as He Needs Me.

“The music will celebrate the never-ending roles of our valiant mothers – raising the children, keeping the fires burning at home and facing the many challenges life brings.

“You will have time to explore the Rule Britannia – Women in the Great War exhibition.

“Our hugely successful exhibition, which was opened last year by Lord-Lieutenant of Essex Jennifer Tolhurst, will also feature a special Edwardian photographic studio with props from those bygone days, where souvenir photos can be taken.”

This marks the first event of the aerodrome’s spring season, during which the grounds will be open from Fridays to Sundays.

The afternoon will also include a free gift for attending mothers.

Tickets are £25 for adults, £12 for under-16s and free for under-fives.
