AN exhibition venue in Maldon is starting its season with some new additions.

Maeldune Heritage Centre in Market Hill has now re-opened after its winter break.

A photographic exhibition by Maldon Camera Club is currently on display until March 26.

A spokesman said: “They are currently showing at the Maeldune Heritage Centre for their second annual exhibition there. It’s a fascinating selection of diverse images in both colour and black and white, and well worth a visit.”

Volunteer Lynda O’Brien has also been named as new centre manager.

Mrs O’Brien said: “I joined the team of volunteers in 2018 following my retirement from a senior position in the legal department of a local authority.

“I have always believed in the important contribution volunteers make and quickly became a valued member of the team, including being one of the team working on the memorable and poignant Danger Tree exhibition last autumn.

“This brought back memories of my experience in 2014, volunteering at the famous Tower of London poppy installation which commemorated the outbreak of the First World War.

“I have a keen interest in heritage and local history and I am really looking forward to working with the Maeldune’s team of trustees, staff and volunteers in continuing to raise awareness of heritage and history for both residents and visitors to Maldon.

“At the same time, I want to provide a valuable opportunity for our wonderful and talented local craftspeople, makers and artists to showcase their work.

“My mission is to make the centre even more of a vibrant and welcoming hub of history and creativity.”

Current manager Deborah Rhodes said the centre will be in good hands.

Trustee chair Margaret Day added: “We received a large number of inquiries about the post and interviewed eight applicants. It was a very strong field but we were unanimous in our decision to appoint Lynda. Deborah will be handing over the keys to her later this month and we are looking forward to working with her.”
