VISITORS will be able to take calming cruises along the Maldon waterways over the coming few weeks.

Topsail Charters are hosting morning brunch sailings from Maldon this Sunday and on Sunday, March 3.

Starting from the Cooks Barge Yard in the Hythe, members of the public will be taken for an hour-long cruise, which departs at 10am.

The leisurely cruise also comes with the option of a bacon, sausage and egg huffer with tea or coffee.

A spokesman said: “Leaving the Quay, the barge heads down river past the Victorian Promenade Park, past the statue of Brithnoth guarding Maldon against marauding Vikings, Northea Island which is a bird reserve owned by the National Trust, Heybridge Basin, the entrance to the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal, Mill Beach with its colourful beach huts on legs and finally towards the privately owned Osea Island, now a luxury weekend retreat and wedding venue.

“Our substantial huffers comprise a crusty loaf huffer bap, filled with sausage, bacon and egg.

“Hot, soft and alcoholic drinks are available at the bar.

“For last minute bookings, to book children, to redeem a voucher or to go on a waiting list, please ring the office on 01621 857567.”

Tickets for the trip only are £20 for adults and £12 for children.

Visitors can add the option of the huffer for an additional £8 per person.

Booking is essential and tickets can be purchased online.

Visitors are advised to be ready to board the barge half an hour before sailing.
