A popular tribute band will be returning to Witham Public Hall later this month.

The talented musicians of The ELO Encounter will be stopping off at the Collingwood Road venue during their tour of the UK.

The eight-piece band will be recreating the distinctive sound of the Electric Light Orchestra during a thrilling evening of entertainment.

All the big hits, such as Telephone Line, Strange Magic, Rockaria and, of course, Mr Blue Sky will be performed by singer Jack Rownes and his band.

Jack is a self-taught musician who has performed in a number of bands around Essex including the Blues Brothers Experience and Up2Eleven, as well as teaching at The Rock Project in Colchester.

Jack will be ably supported by guitarist Martin Donald, drummer Dacre Peck and violinist Jasmine Ali.

The Rownes trio of Simon, Max and Henry will also be supporting to help make the songs sounds as authentic as possible.

A spokesman said: “This is an all-live show featuring soaring strings, striking vocal harmonies and playing all the much loved songs from ELO’s hit-filled library.

“The ELO Encounter tribute band promises a night filled with rock, roll and Blue Skies that would make even Mozart mambo and Bach boogie.

“So Hold On Tight because Rock and Roll Is King in a show that is guaranteed to have you partying All Over The World.”

The Electric Light Orchestra were an English rock band which was originally formed in Birmingham in 1970.

Set up by songwriters Jeff Lynne and Roy Wood, along with the help of drummer Bev Bevan, their music was characterised by a mix of pop, classical arrangements and futuristic iconography.

This brilliant tribute to the band takes place on Saturday, January 26, at 8pm.

Tickets are still available and cost £14.
