THE organiser of a special Kevin Beattie nostalgia night has admitted being blown away after receiving ticket requests from around the world - and auction memorabilia from music megastar Ed Sheeran.

The eagerly-awaited event in memory of the Ipswich Town legend is taking place at Clacton’s Royal Hotel on February 26.

Beattie, widely regarded as the Blues’ best-ever player, died last September, aged 64.

Town superfan Malcolm Thompson is organising the ticket-only evening in memory of his great friend and admitted being bowled over by the interest.

“It’s certainly got people talking, not just here but around the world,” he said.

“Three fans are flying in from Denmark especially for the event and that shows the affection people still have for the Beat.

“We’ve got former greats like Paul Mariner and Eric Gates coming along and the Professional Footballers’ Association has been so impressed they’re sending a representative along in the shape of former West Ham and Spurs midfielder Paul Allen.

“I’m hoping there will be more surprise guests in the audience as other footballers and ex-colleagues want to attend.”

“It’s becoming a very big night and I’m delighted with the way things are going. I can’t wait.”

One of the highlights of the evening promises to be a special auction, featuring memorabilia from celebrity Blues fan Sheenan and Spurs legend Ossie Ardiles.

“Great donations have been flooding in, including one from Ed,” added Thompson.

“So it should be a great night not just for football fans but those who collect memorabilia and autographs.”
