A LEADING opponent of Brexit is coming to Maldon to argue the case for a so-called ‘People’s Vote’.

Lord Adonis will give a talk at the town hall about the need for a second referendum.

The event is organised by resident and musician Colin Baldy on behalf of campaign organisation Essex for Europe.

He follows Lord Adonis on social media platform Twitter and contacted him.

Mr Baldy said: “Twitter can really be an immediate form of communication.

“I saw that he was going to Hull for his talk and I asked if he could come to Maldon.

“He responded and said that he would come down.

“I do agree with Lord Adonis that Parliament has no idea what they are doing and if there is a way out, we should take it.

“I think it was one of the people in his office that said he’s not afraid to step into the lion’s den.

“As a musician, I know the importance of keeping that sense of openness to the world.

“I run a summer school in Italy for young opera singers and I have been doing so for 18 years.

“We were up for some Erasmus funding but due to this decision, it has effectively denied 35 young people a new experience.

“We want to try to get as many waverers along, so please bring people you know who fall into this category.

“Essex for Europe is a campaigning group representing local people who believe that the decision to leave the EU was wrong.

“Whether you voted to leave or to remain, this event should be of interest to anyone who is concerned for the future of our country.”

The talk will take place on February 5 from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.

The talk is free but there will be a collection to cover costs, and spaces are limited. To book, visit bit.ly/2CVPS5X.
