PLANS have been put forward to turn a former veterinary surgery into housing.

Developers want to convert a building at Clarks Farm Greyhound Rescue in Wash Lane, Little Totham, into a two-bedroom bungalow.

The building was last used as a veterinary surgery in December 2017.

A report said: “The building subject to this application was used as a medical centre for the dogs, this use has now ceased.

“Some internal works have been carried out which do not require planning permission and a change of use has not yet occurred.”

A pre-application was submitted to the council early last year based on the redevelopment of the whole site owned by the applicant from commercial to residential.

The report added: “The applicant is handicapped and will have to close the kennels in due course because of his health.

“The applicant has decided to take the development in stages and the change of use of this existing building is the first stage.”

Another issue leading to the decision is that two different vets have had to vacate the site due to its rural location and no passing trade.

Maldon District Council will rule on the planning application at a later date.
