A FILM club will be showing a classic love story to begin its seasonal return.

Maldon Film Club will be meeting at Maldon Town Hall in Market Hill next Wednesday to watch French new wave film Jules Et Jim.

The film, set in Paris before the First World War, tells the story of friends Jules and Jim, who fall in love with the same woman, Catherine. Catherine loves and marries Jules, but when the three meet up again after the war she starts to fall in love with Jim.

This is the story of three people in love – a love which does not affect their relationship – and about how their relationship evolves over the years.

A spokesman for the club said: “We’ve had a very successful start to the season with five of the first eight films receiving an approval rating of at least 77 per cent.”

Later this month, on January 23, there will be a showing of multi-award-winning film Three Billboards Outside Ebbing Missouri.

The dark comedy crime-drama was written, directed, and produced by Martin McDonagh and stars Frances McDormand.

Doors open at 7.15pm. Wine and soft drinks are available from 7.30pm and the film begins at 8pm.

Films will be shown on Wednesdays from January until the end of the season on May 29.

Some of the other films to be screened include Faces Places, The Shape of Water, The Midwife, In Between and Film Stars Don’t Die In Liverpool.

Film fans can still join £20 to see the remaining 11 films of the season. Guests can be invited to a showing for £3.
