YORK'S newest pub has opened its doors to bring some festive cheer.
The Market Cat, in Jubbergate, on the corner of Shambles Market, is a three-storey venue boasting “spectacular” views across the city and the Minster.
Pub company and craft beer wholesaler Pivovar has teamed up with Thornbridge Brewery to open the new venue following a £500,000 refurbishment.
The building was previously occupied by Yorkshire pawnbroker Herbert Brown & Son and, later, a shoe shop.
Sam Wheatley, Retail Operations Manager at Pivovar, said: "The Market Cat will feature outstanding beer from Thornbridge supplemented by a range of guest breweries dispensed from eight cask lines and 14 kegs lines.
"This will showcase the brewery’s iconic Jauipur IPA and Lord Marples Classic Bitter and introduce their new innovative brews from the ‘Year of Beer’ series such as the Necessary Evil Imperial Stout and a Barrel Aged Sour Raspberry Blonde.
"All of which will be underpinned by a beer friendly pizza menu consisting of dough made with the award winning Jaipur IPA, a contemporary wine list, locally sourced coffee from our friends at York Emporium which will be delivered by our well trained staff that you would expect from our other venues."
Pivovar also runs the York Tap, based in York station, Pivni and Pavement Vaults as well as bars in Sheffield, Harrogate, Leeds, Newcastle and London.
