A TRAINING centre which specialises in skills used in rural areas is being supported by council bosses.

The Livewell grant fund from Maldon District Council is helping Abberton Rural Training deliver their practical courses for the 2019/20 period.

The educational organisation is supporting 16 residents from the district.

The courses have a focus on supporting those living in rural locations who need help to access jobs, or further education and training in the rural sector.

There are courses in woodland skills, land management, horticulture, construction and carpentry.

Council community services boss Bob Boyce said: “There is some fantastic work ongoing between Maldon district residents and Abberton Rural Training.

“The residents are learning and being equipped with skills that will not only increase their career prospects but will make a very positive impact on their health and wellbeing too.”
