AN acclaimed musician will be visiting Maldon to play a rare gig.

The Chris Corcoran Trio are playing in the Long Room at the Blue Boar in Silver Street this Friday.

The concert will be the second project by Blues At The Barns Promotions, the team behind the Blues at the Barns festival and last month’s show by pianist Dale Storr.

Drummer Mike Thorn and double-bassist Jamie Lawrence will be joining Chris to play an impressive set-list of swing, blues and jazz.

Organiser Tim Aves said: “What I’m trying to do with these shows, and with our annual festival in Burnham each May, is to give local music-lovers a chance to enjoy world-class musicians they may not have had a chance to see before.

“That was the case in October with the superlative Dale Storr, and while Chris’s trio are very different in style, I’m sure everyone who comes will feel they are seeing a truly class act.”

Chris Corcoran is often described as “the guitarist’s guitarist” and is acknowledged as one of the UK’s finest old-school blues and R&B players.

As well as his solo and band work, Chris has worked with many acts, including regular gigs with Laura B & Her Band, and runs guitar workshops.

The trio have released two albums – The Getaway in 2010 and Listen Up in 2015 – and Chris has been playing for more than 20 years.

The trio have also played regularly at the International Guitar Festival of Great Britain and they have been hailed by Blues In Britain magazine as “an antidote to the plethora of noisy blues-rock acts dominating the UK blues scene”.
