An entrepreneur is raising cash for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance after paramedics helped to save her father’s life.

Enya Jones, founder of Enya Baby, an online gift shop based in Burnham, is set to host the online raffle through her business to thank the trust for being on the scene after dad, Damian, 43 was involved in a “horrific accident”.

The 19-year-old said if it had not been for the air ambulance, Damian would not be here today.

She said: “On February 27 last year I got a call at work from my mum telling me my dad had a horrific accident at work and I had to get to the hospital as soon as possible to go and see him.

“My dad was crushed by a three-tonne dumper truck and was left with ten broken bones and a collapsed lung.

“If it wasn’t for the air ambulance being so quick to get my dad to the Royal London Hospital, I was told I could have lost him.”

The accident happened at Ghyllgrove Primary School, in Basildon, while Damian was working on site with his 18-year-old son.

He was crushed by a large pile of concrete building blocks, breaking six of his ribs and his nose, and causing serious damage to his chest as well as a collapsed lung.

Damian spent six days in intensive care at the Royal London Hospital following the incident.

His former employer, Maldon-based S&K Groundwork Solutions Ltd, was prosecuted by the Health and Safety Executive at Southend Magistrates’ Court for contravening health and safety regulations.

The company was forced to pay out £28,395.65 in fines and costs.

Because of the severe damage and mental stress Damian sustained, he will never work again and has limited use of his left arm.

But Enya is just grateful her father was saved.

She said: “The air ambulance and the hospital saved my dad and I couldn’t ever thank them enough.

“This is why I am raising money for them, so they can help and potentially save so many other people, like they saved my dad.”

Enya has dreams of expanding her business, opening her own shop with Enya Baby’s own product range.

Thanks to the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance her father will hopefully see her achieve that.

The raffle will take place on Sunday, December 9, through Enya Baby online.

Enya added: “I have some amazing prizes in the raffle which have been donated to me by many businesses.”

All proceeds from the event will go to the air ambulance.
