An Oscar-nominated Lebanese film is set to be screened next week.

Maldon Film Club is showing The Insult on Tuesday at Maldon Town Hall.

The film was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards this year.

A spokesman said: “The Insult describes how a misunderstanding involving a drainpipe on a balcony incongruously sparks a politically-charged scandal that reopens historical and political wounds in Lebanon.

“When Yasser, a Palestinian refugee, and Tony, a Christian nationalist, go head to head Yasser utters an insult Tony cannot forgive.”

The club’s film season continues until May 29 next year with films shown fortnightly on Tuesdays in 2018 and Wednesdays in 2019.

The price of an annual subscription is £25, which entitles members to admission to all the season’s films.

There are a limited number of places for junior members, aged 16-18, in full time education and training at the reduced cost of £18.

Guests are welcome for £3 per film.

Door open at 7.15pm for an 8pm start.
