Thurlow Nunn League

division one south

WHEN Saturday's abandoned match was replayed on Tuesday night, Harwich proved too strong for their opponents with a dominant second-half performance.

The Shrimpers were the first to go close when Braintree keeper Jack Stoneham made a fine save, tipping Tyler Rose's shot over the bar.

However, it was Braintree who took the lead when a cross-shot was diverted by a defender past goalkeeper Sam Felgate.

Harwich levelled when Shaun Kioussis' corner was headed home by Elliot Johnson.

The Shrimpers welcomed back Jordan Heath after a lengthy injury and their ace marksman put them into the lead when he ran through and gave the keeper no chance with a low shot into the corner of the net.

Soon after the start of the second half, Rose put Harwich in the driving seat by increasing their lead to 3-1.

The odds were stacked even higher against Braintree when a sending off reduced them to ten men.

Jordan Heath's shot was rolling towards the goalline when, at the last second, a Braintree defender cleared.

However, with Harwich well on top, Rose scored their fourth goal.

Braintree kept trying but Harwich were much more dangerous and scored their fifth goal when Ryan Heath broke through and netted with a cool finish.

On Saturday, the first team travel to meet Newbury Forest while the reserves are at home to Dedham Old Boys Reserves (kick-off 2pm).
