A community is in mourning after the death of a "major force" in Burnham.

Nancy Crisp sadly died on Wednesday November 7 following a battle with a serious illness.

Burnham Town Council paid tribute to Mrs Crisp, who leaves behind a loving family and a community that knew her well for working to protect the environment around the town.

A spokesman for Burnham Town Council, said: "Nancy was a major force in this town, spending hundreds of hours researching local issues and battling both with Burnham Town Council and Maldon District Council to protect wildlife and the general environment.

"She possessed an enormous knowledge about local issues and fought with considerable passion for her beliefs.

"She is a tremendous loss to Burnham.

"Councillors and people of the town are offering their sincere condolences."
