A GROUP of young people attacked staff and vandalised a train at Southminster station.

Commuters were shocked when they saw the crew of suspects begin to cause problems on the platform of the station in Tattersalls Chase.

A Greater Anglia spokesman said: “The 17.06 Southminster to Stratford service was cancelled last night after a member of staff was assaulted and the train was vandalised.

“The case has been referred to British Transport Police, who are investigating."

Peter Layzell tweeted about the madness at the station after a group attacked staff and threw bricks through the windows of a train.

Following the incident, British Transport Police (BTP) released a statement appealing for witnesses.

A spokesman for BTP, said: "Officers were called to Southminster station at 5.15pm on Tuesday November 6, following reports of a large group of youths causing a disturbance.

"One of the youths assaulted a member of staff.

"They then threw bricks through a train window while staff were waiting for police.

"The group made off from the scene before police arrived, and officers are now investigating.

The Greater Anglia spokesman added: "We do not tolerate staff abuse, and would encourage anyone with information to contact British Transport Police.”
