A man in his 50s died after a horror crash on the M11 near Stansted Airport.

The driver of a blue Mercedes C350 Sport hit a white Ford Transit van and a Volkswagen Transporter on the road moving northbound betweens junctions 8 and 8a yesterday afternoon.

Sadly the driver of the Mercedes died at the scene.

The driver of the van, aged 38 from Ipswich has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving while under the influence of drink or drugs and drive while unfit through drink or drugs.

He has been remanded in custody.

The carriageway was closed for sometime yesterday afternoon and evening.

Essex Police handed over control of the closure to Highways England.

Traffic was diverted up the slip road, over the roundabout, and back on to the carriageway on the other side.

Police ask anyone who saw the incident or any of the vehicles in the moments before it took place to come forward.
