An exhibition will use virtual reality to bring to life the stories of soldiers who fought in the Great War.

The Danger Tree will see two free interactive art exhibitions looking at the Great War coming to Maldon.

The exhibition is being held as part of the celebrations to commemorate the centenary of the First World War.

Danger Tree features original paintings and limited edition prints using state-of-the-art augmented reality software to bring each piece alive through poetry, animation and music.

Visitors will be able to use the technology to watch the paintings transform into a 3D experience using hand-held devices and headphones.

Each painting will tell the story of soldiers who fought and fell in the Great War from 1914 to 1918.

The exhibition was created by award-winning artists Scarlett Raven and Marc Marot and it will mark the first time the artwork has come to Essex.

Its visit to Maldon follows critically-acclaimed showcases in London, Manchester Belfast, Liverpool and Birmingham.

An introduction to the work will be held on October 25 from 7pm at Plume Academy, Fambridge Road, Maldon, with a talk by Marc Marot.

Admission to the event is free.

The exhibition will run at the Maeldune Centre from October 27 to November 13 showing ten portraits of soldiers from the Great War.

A second exhibition will run at the Moot Hall from October 27 to November 18 with oil paintings depicting images of the Great War by Scarlett Raven.

Each painting uses augmented reality to reveal harrowing narrative of the fallen while reminding us of the impact on loved ones.

The exhibition contains animation, music, and wartime poetry narrated by acclaimed actors including Vicky McClure and Sean Bean.

The exhibitions are free to attend.
