HARWICH Boxing Club looked to make a successful start to the new campaign with two of their boxers in action at Essex County Cricket Club, in Chelmsford.

England international light heavyweight Patrick Allen Cripps took on old rival Jason Bradley, from Halstead ABC.

Allen Cripps controlled affairs with a rapier-like left jab in the opener.

Bradley did have some success when the two boxers traded.

However, it was Allen Cripps' sharper boxing skills that saw him move ahead.

After nine minutes of action, the Harwich boxer gained a deserved unanimous points decision against an always game opponent.

Welterweight Paul Gordon boxed for Essex versus a combined select team and faced London's Julio Tuwizana, from Double Jab ABC, also over three three-minute rounds.

Gordon bossed affairs from start to finish, forcing the pace and connecting well with shots to head and body.

The last half-minute of the contest saw Gordon pile the pressure on as he had his foe trapped on the ropes.

A unanimous points win was his just reward for his opening contest of a new campaign.
