CLACTON Golf Club's men took on a team from Frinton Golf Club, playing fourball better ball for the Bentley Cup.

The morning started with a typical coastal wind, which strengthened as the day went on.

As both sides should be used to the weather, neither could really use it as an excuse.

The match was played in great spirit as many members from both sides knew each other well.

Clacton eventually retained the cup, beating Frinton 8-4.

On Sunday, Clacton's men played in the last Gold Leaf event of 2018 – the Lifeboat Cup.

Once again, a large field of well over 100 golfers started in ideal conditions for the competition.

Standing tall at the end with a superb nett 63 was Christopher Connelly.

Second place was decided on countback, with Craig Bruce just edging Paul Foley out – both men returning nett 66s.

Clacton's ladies played two competitions, the Veterans' Bowl and the Under-60s competition.

Pamela Richmond took the honours in the Veterans' Bowl with a very good score of 38 points.

Second place went to countback and Christine Crossfield edged out Sandy Cocker, both coming in with 37 points.

The Under-60s was won by Elizabeth Strutt with 38 points.

Ann Wright was second.

Clacton and Frinton juniors also competed for an inter-club trophy, the Sainsbury Cup.

Home advantage clearly counted as Clacton won 7-0.
