Last Thursday, members of Danbury Twinning invited Michael Bentinck to talk to their September monthly meeting.

His subject was the Second World War, the war in Japan in particular.

Michael is an author and broadcaster and brought to us an informative talk in an interesting way. The subject was however very difficult and Michael warned us some of what he had to say was not pleasant.

His talk was entitled My Father, My Hero, and was based on his father's dreadful experiences in Singapore and Burma at the hands of the Japanese, related to him in the last few months before his father had died, experiences that his father had kept to himself over all those years.

He had brought a number of books which he had written on the subject.

Our chairman, David Whiteing, thanked Michael for the interesting talk and reminded members that the purpose of the twinning was to create friendship and understanding between people of different countries to prevent such dreadful things happening again.

David then reminded members that the meeting on Thursday October 4 will be our annual update on German current affairs, when we will be welcoming back a favourite speaker, Hr Werner Sabiers.

Our meetings are open to all who wish to come. For details, visit www.DanburyTwinning.info
