A BIG annual event on Burnham’s calendar is back for its 110th year celebration.

The Burnham Carnival will be going on all day and night on Saturday, September in High Street.

On Carnival Day the fun starts at 10am with a performance from the Ormiston Rivers Choir

Throughout the day, there will be Disney princesses, the 999 Competition, Blue Falcons Gymnastic Display team, traditional Punch and Judy and many stalls.

Live music will be provided by Rayleigh Brass, singer Loula, and the Craic Heads.

Station Road will be closed by the Co Op from 5:00 pm to allow the procession to take place safely, reopening by 10:00 pm once the crowd has dispersed.

The Grand Illuminated Procession starts from the clock tower at 7:30 pm and follows a route up to Station Road and then along the back streets.

There is also plenty to do in the week leading up to the festivities.

Next Monday, there will be a quiz night at the village hall in Arcadia Road. The quiz starts at 7:30pm and teams of four can enter for £2.50 per person

Next Tuesday, there will be a Minute to Win It competition at Carnival Hall. Entry is £3 and teams of three to five people must arrive at 7pm for a 7:30pm start.

The new Carnival Queen, Chelsea Hill, will then be crowned at 8pm with her princesses Daisy Crowe and Summer Price.

On Wednesday, the Baby Show at the village hall will start at 2pm. Entry into the competition is £2 and entry forms are available on the door, at Savages Chemist in Station Road or Co Op in Foundry Lane.

On Thursday, there will be Bingo at the village hall which starts at 7:45pm.

Carnival Chairman Caroline Sarychkin said: “This year is the 110th Carnival so we have lots of old favourites and plenty of new ones.

“All the entertainment is free, it’s a lovely family day out and the night time Procession is always magical.

“We hope everyone will come along and enjoy themselves and help us raise money for local charities and good causes.”

Parking will be available at Ormiston Rivers Academy and St Mary’s Church, or visitors can come by train on the Wickford-Southminster line.
