STOW Maries aerodrome is currently looking for volunteers to help out with maintenance tasks.

The charity in Purleigh will be having its Heritage Open Day on Sunday.

It will be using this opportunity to give out more information about volunteering.

Earlier this week, The Ford Exhaust Team from the Dunton Technical Centre in Basildon came over to help as part of their “community days”.

More than 25 employees helped spruce up the site by painting rooms, chalking the runway, mowing grass and re-varnishing the Mess chairs.

A spokesman said: “As a charity, this help is so vital so the site is very grateful.

“If anyone would like to know more about volunteering at the aerodrome, please come along to our open day."
