YOU will have to queue on any road leading to Maldon High Street even before all of the new housing has been completed.

There has been very little foresight from those in authority and yet Mr Pearlman thinks it is a good idea to close the top end of the High Street from Market Hill to West Square (Letters, August 16).

This will double the amount of traffic at the lower end of the town and a bottleneck at Mill Road, Fambridge Road and Spital Road, where there are schools and doctors’ surgeries.

I am sure you remember the problems caused when the council decided to close the top end of the High Street one day a week for the market.

I think Maldon lends itself to a one-way system that would allow desperately needed short stay parking, disabled parking, loading bays and calming measures for pedestrians.

Mr Pearlman is quoted as saying “I live and breath the businesses in this town, I truly believe it can work”.

I was born in Maldon and worked most of my life in the High Street and I truly believe to pedestrianise the top end of the High Street will not work.

It possibly may look good and quieter for those who live there, but please look at roads and car parking first.

Also please consult the traders the full length of the High Street, we would love to discuss it with you.
