AN ENTERPRISE centre for the district is a step closer after council members agreed to progress the project.

Work was undertaken by consultants Nautilus Associates to explore the viability, design requirements and operational models for the Maldon district’s first enterprise centre.

Maldon District Council will work in partnership with Essex County Council, Magnox, and the Bradwell Legacy Partnership to develop the project, which will be based on best practice of already established and highly successful centres such as the Kings Lynn Innovation Centre and ORBIS Energy Centre.

Adrian Fluker, leader of Maldon District Council, said: “The delivery of an enterprise centre has been high on the agenda of the members for some time. I’m delighted that Maldon District Council has now agreed to progress the project to provide for both an in-depth feasibility study and funding strategy.

“The enterprise centre will be the supporting catalyst for new and existing businesses and I hope that in the long term it will create lots of new employment opportunities for the district.”

Nautilus Associates will now be undertaking a feasibility study and further work to identify the necessary grant options.

It is hoped the new centre will be operational in 2021. The council has not stated where in the district it will be built.
