Just days into the summer holidays and residents in Maldon say they are already suffering from a “parking nightmare”.

People in Meadway and surrounding streets say vehicles are being left on pavements by visitors trying to avoid parking charges in the town.

That poses a real problem for people with prams, wheelchairs or mobility scooters – and potentially the emergency services.

It has got so bad that Michelle Harvey is now calling for residentsonly parking permits on her street.

In the past, Maldon MP John Whittingdale has spoken out against pavement parking because of the problems it causes for the visually impaired.

And a year ago residents on the Poets Estate slammed “disrespectful” drivers who park on their neighbourhood’s green spaces.

This problem is clearly not going away – if anything it is getting worse.

Drivers understandably wants to save themselves a few pounds, but something clearly needs to be done before this gets totally out of hand.
