Residents in Burnham face the prospect of a huge retirement village being built in the area.
Housing has always been, and will always be, a divisive subject, especially in the countryside.
But this isn’t any old housing scheme being proposed, it has a focus on the elderly, and in particular, the battle against dementia.
The elderly need to be cared for. Physical wellbeing, mental health and interacting with the world are just some of the things to consider.
Social care is stretched, people are living longer and we are delving more into the relationship the environment has on our health.
So, when a company decides its plans will include dementia-friendly environments such as paths to keep residents active, it makes you consider it more carefully.
There may not be a way to solve every issue at once, but if there is any initiative that lends even a small amount of comfort and stability to our elderly population, that can’t be a bad thing.
