A BUILDING which used to house a care home will be put up for sale.

Essex County Council has decided the former building of Knightswood Day Centre, on Steeple Road, Southminster, The day centre moved premises to Hall Farm Road in Asheldham in August last year.

The Southminster building comprises a Victorian House with an extension that was built in the Sixties, which was when it was converted to be used as a day centre for elderly people.

It was leased by the council to the Dengie Project Trust for many years up until their decision to relocate last year.

The land associated with the property also housed the Bourne Tree Nursery, a plant nursery run with the help of adults with special needs. However, following the move by Knightswood, the nursery has since ceased trading.

Several options were proposed by the council, including maintaining the building to be used by for other means.

However, the council has decided in order to maximise the use of their assets the site will be released and sold onto new owners.

The property is expected to be put on the market this month. The council have not disclosed how much the property is worth.
