TWO people were taken to hospital following a crash near Maldon.

Police and ambulance crews were rushed to the scene of the incident in Fambridge Road on Sunday afternoon.

The crash involved a bus and motorbike. It is understood that a motorbike carrying two people lost control on a bend and hit the front of the bus.

A spokesman for the ambulance service said: "We were called at just after 2pm on Sunday to reports of a road traffic collision near the roundabout on Fambridge Road just outside of Maldon.

"An ambulance, ambulance officer and a team from the hazardous are response team (HART) attended the scene.

"Two patients, believed to have been riding a motorbike which came into collision with a bus, were treated by ambulance staff.

"The patients – one female and one male, ages unknown, were conscious and breathing, with suspected minor injuries.

"They were taken to Broomfield Hospital by ambulance for further treatment."

A resident who was on the bus at the time, who did not wish to be named, said: "It was a horrendous experience, the bike came out of nowhere.

"It was a complete accident, because the roads were quite slippy due to the high heat the driver lost control of the bike and it ended up on the other side of the road and hitting the bus.

"The female passenger of the bike suffered the most damage, it was horrific to watch and I won't be able to forget it.

"I hope they both make a full recovery."

Police are appealing for witnesses of the collision.
