A RUNNER from Maldon braved the heat and sun to tackle the London Marathon in support of the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance service.

London Marathon runners have raised more than £12,000 for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance (EHAAT) by taking part in this year’s event.

Despite record high temperatures for the event, all the EHAAT runners made it to the finish line.

One of those was Jack Newman from Maldon.

He said: “What an amazing day Sunday was. It was great to raise money for the air ambulance and good to know all that training was worth it in the end.

"It was an absolute pleasure to run for you and raise money, it was a great atmosphere and I didn’t realise how much people on the side lines helped you get there.”

Natasha Robertson, Community Fundraising Manager for Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, said: “I was very proud and honoured to be at the London Marathon this year cheering our runners on.

“It was really hot on the day and I really don’t know how the runners completed the course, it was so tough.

"A huge thank you to all of our amazing runners, we can’t fly without you.”
