As a Langford resident, and as spokesman for the British Red Cross, may I take this opportunity to thank the Standard's parent company Newsquest, for its generous donation to our National Floods Appeal (your report, August 1).
Having seen for myself the devastating effects of natural disasters at home and overseas, I know this money will provide vital support to vulnerable people, like the elderly and those with disabilities, as they rebuild their shattered lives following unprecedented floods across England recently.
Many Red Cross supporters in the district have also responded generously with their time and money to support flood victims and I would like to extend my thanks to them too.
