A care home placed in special measures last year was ordered to restrict the number of patients it is taking on while it improves, it has been revealed.

Last week the Care Quality Commission published an updated report where it showed enforcement actions had been taken against Southminster Residential Home.

The home was rated “inadequate” by the Care Quality Commission in November, following an inspection in September.

The care watchdog also placed the home in special measures.

Following the inspection, the CQC made a recommendation to the home to improve the training of staff. They also asked to be provided with monthly reports of the situation.

The care home was told to limit its admissions whilst the process was taking place.

But the enforcement actions were only revealed after the CQC republished the report on January 18.

The CQC will publish enforcement actions after the original report when they can’t legally publish at the time.

A spokesman for the CQC said: “We issued a notice of decision following the inspection to restrict admissions to the home until standards around people’s safety could be improved.”

The CQC returned to inspect the home and a report is due out soon.

The care home’s parent company, Top Care, says it is hopeful over the new report.

Area manager Mike Richardson said:"Subsequently we have been reinspected by the CQC and improvements have been made.

"The home has worked extremely hard over the last four months.

"We are awaiting the new report and we will be moving forward to get back to a 'good' home."

A follow up report is expected to be published this month.
