A COUNCIL and clinical commissioning group have been recognised for their efforts to keep their workforce fit and healthy.

Active Essex has announced the shortlist for the 2017 Sports Awards, with the Mid Essex CCG and Maldon District Council being nominated.

The awards are an annual event that celebrates sporting achievements across the county from grass roots to professional level.

The awards recognise both individuals and organisations who have made a positive contribution to sport and physical activity in Greater Essex and the winners will be announced at a glittering ceremony at Chelmsford City Racecourse on Tuesday December 5.

Richard Holmes, Director of Customers and Community said “We are very proud to be nominated by Active Essex for their Active Workplace of the Year award. We are keen to support healthy activity within our staff team and we run a number of initiatives to promote wellbeing and exercise.

“These include lunch time yoga, cycle to work schemes and running clubs.

“Along with our partners, including Moat, CAB and Places for People, we also support and take part in National Fitness Day, Cycle to Work Day, Couch to 5k Club and arrange health and wellbeing checks.”

Bob Boyce MBE, Chairman of community services, said “Supporting people to be active and live healthy lifestyles is a key objective for the council, and physical activity during the working day is so important and helps maintain both physical and mental health.”

In March 2017, Mid Essex CCG launched its Live Well challenge - a two-pronged campaign lasting 100 days.

They also asked staff to become an ‘Ambassador for the Day’ to share how they Live Well and stay active.

Caroline Rassell, Accountable Officer of Mid Essex CCG, said: "I’m extremely pleased that our 100-day challenge initiatives have seen us shortlisted.

“This is great news and a huge tribute to all the CCG's staff. I'm proud that so many are taking active steps to Live Well."
