Our village Sea Scout Group's annual Strawberry Tea and Garden Party held in my garden at Oranmore, Stephenson Road, was a most delightful occasion.

Despite the rain the sun did come out and over one hundred villagers and friends thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They were welcomed at the gate by members of the Scout Fellowship, Connie de la Hay, Audrey Harmer and Jeff Braithwaite, who were in charge of admission and raffle tickets.

The garden party was opened by the group's president, councillor Colin Coleman, who welcomed all villagers and their guests and said how much he encouraged and supported such events which brought villagers together.

Members were pleased to welcome the Rector of North Fambridge, the Reverend Sandra Manley, who is the group's sponsoring authority. There was a wide variety of stalls with old favourites like the cake stall and book stall, and the sideshows were very popular. The Beaver Scouts all came dressed as pirates and there were some very interesting costumes indeed! Councillor Coleman judged the best dressed pirate competition and awarded the prize to Beaver scout, Faith Lancaster. The many raffle prizes were presented to the winners by the group chairman, and there were also prizes for competitions and games presented by the organising committee. The group chairman, Jack Wratten, thanked all villagers, parents and friends who gave their support and all those who worked so hard to make the event such a success. He particularly thanked Gail Grout who made 150 scones for the strawberry teas, Tony Jackson for providing transport, Kate Gridley and her team who worked very hard organising stalls and sideshows, Janet Jackson for managing the cake stall, members of the Scout Fellowship for running games and Beryl Wratten, Shirley Braithwaite, Pam Bott, Susan Baldry, Sue Hayes, Linda Williams and Debbie Harrison, who worked hard preparing and serving the strawberry teas.
