A REPLICA of a Thames Sailing Barge has arrived in Maldon.
The Blue Mermaid was commissioned by Sea-Change Sailing Trust who will use the barge in their work with disadvantaged young people.
The 87ft barge is a replica of one which was sunk, with her crew, in World War II
The boat will be based at Hythe Quay, Maldon.
It will be available to be viewed on Wednesday, July 6, and Friday, July 8.
Sea-Change Sailing Trust’s Chair of Trustees, Hilary Hilajko said: This marks a landmark moment in our ambitions to get a new Thames Sailing Barge into operation.
“Having already raised £450,000, we now have £150,000 left to raise to get the barge finished in the hope that Blue Mermaid will enter service during 2017.”
