Community figureheads are calling on the council to allow members of the public to speak at Maldon District Council Crime and Disorder Committee meetings.
Currently, the council bans residents from speaking at the meetings, however, Adrian Fluker, the committee’s chairman, said he wants the rules changed.
The Southminster Ward councillor wants more public involvement in the council’s scrutiny process so it is “more democratic.”
He said: “Some councils allow up to thirty minutes for members of the public to speak.
“We should allow the people to speak.”
His announcement came during Maldon District Council’s Crime and Disorder Committee meeting, last Wednesday 7.
