After a torturous 11 hour wait, Maldon's newest MP was revealed as John Whittingdale.
Mr Whittingdale, who received 60.4 per cent of the vote, has represented the district in Parliament since 1992.
This is up on 2010's election result, where he received 59.8 per cent.
In second place came Beverley Acevedo of Ukip, with 14.6per cent and in third place came Peter Edwards, of Labour with 11.8 per cent.
Mr Whittingdale said: 'Obviously I'm delighted, it's a terrific result."
There were 48,220 votes cast overall in the district.
