An age-old tradition saw traffic brought to a standstill as the true meaning of Easter was remembered.
The Good Friday Procession of Witness in Maldon saw a large, heavy wooden cross carried from the Assumption of our Lady Catholic Church in Victoria Road, through the High Street to All Saints Church.
A couple of hundred people from churches across Maldon took part in the procession, which is in total silence, to commemorate the death of Christ.
Yesterday, members of All Saints Church had an egg rolling competition in the High Street.
This tradition symbolises the rolling away of the stone from in front of the tomb.
