Organisers have cancelled Burnham-on-Crouch market today because of safety concerns over high winds.
Strong winds caused havoc across Essex overnight and this morning, with some of the most powerful gusts recorded in Maldon and Braintree.
According to the Essex Weather Centre, the gusts reached a county-wide high of 57.7mph, recorded overnight by a Met Office weather station near Braintree.
At about 4am, wind speeds of 57mph were recorded in Maldon.
Travel disruption is continuing after the QEII bridge was closed during rush hour as winds reached 52mph in Dartford.
