Heybridge Swifts have been warned they face major opposition in the battle to fund a new stadium by selling their existing ground to a housing development.
The Swifts revealed last week it was looking to sell its Scraley Road home of 53 years to developers Bloor Homes for 105 homes and move to Goldhanger Road in the town.
The proposals, unveiled at a public consultation on Tuesday, found favour with a steady stream of residents attending.
But businesses and residents around Goldhanger Road said plans would spell the end for their business.
