Residents are asking councillors to follow the example of their peers in other parts of Essex in the battle to get streetlights switched back on.
After examining its 2015/16 budget, Harlow District Council is considering turning Essex County Council-owned streetlights back on and will be putting forward a recommendation to its cabinet.
Streetlights in Maldon were first turned off in 2007 when Maldon and Uttlesford districts were used as part of a county council pilot scheme.
Residents say they would like Maldon to follow in Harlow's footsteps so the lights can be switched back on.
Councillor Mark Heard will suggest to Maldon District Council that residents be given an extra hour of light before the lamps go out.
He said: "I recognise the fact we have got to make some savings and I have always said I would like them to extend the lights until 1am."
