Hasty plans are being made to make sure someone speaks up for Burnham when housing plans are examined.

At a recent Burnham Town Council meeting, resident John Hitcham raised concerns after noticing no-one from Burnham was listed on the draft schedule of speakers at the planning inspector’s examination of the Local Development Plan on January 28.

Mr Hitcham said: “I have noticed that when the plan for Burnham strategic growth is being reviewed, there doesn’t appear to be anyone from Burnham speaking against the proposals for the LDP in terms of size.

“I got an email about it and when I read it I was horrified."

Forty-one speakers already listed include developers, consultants and representatives for parish councils and residents’ groups.

Burnham mayor Ron Pratt said: “I think the short answer is yes we will send someone.

“One of us will say something to reflect what the council feels.”

Councillors then discussed hiring someone to speak on their behalf and the cost of this will be looked into by the clerk, but a rough figure of £1,000 was suggested.
