Farmers want to thank a mystery man who saved one of their cows from drowning.
The cow had jumped into a river between Beeleigh Lock and Ricketts Lock in Beeleigh, near Maldon, on Thursday morning.
Owners Mary and Robin Strathern, of Mosklyns Farm, Purleigh, have about 150 cows and the ten-year-old animal – nicknamed Nutter because she always gets herself into trouble – got herself into bother after going for a dip.
Mr Strathern said: “My son Robert was there but he saw the guy swim from the other side of the river and hold the cow up until my son came along.
“The cow survived thanks to this man and he was very brave to swim the river on his own.”
