Solutions to tackle flooding if more than 1,000 homes are built will be shown to the public soon.
Maldon District Council has allocated land for 1,235 homes in north Heybridge, as part of its draft Local Development Plan.
Flooding is already an issue during very heavy rainfall, particularly in Holloway Road and Maypole Road.
Developer Countryside Properties is working on a flood alleviation scheme to solve the problem and ensure the new homes do not flood.
But Don Benson, chairman of Heybridge Residents’ Association, which is concerned about the new homes, claimed he had seen a copy of recent proposals and was not happy with them.
A public exhibition will be held on Saturday, June 21 from midday until 6pm at Heybridge Primary School in Rowan Drive.
