We have sent what we hope will be viewed as constructive opposition to the planned youth shelter to Heybridge Parish Council, as - along with the writer of previous letters -we will be very much affected by it.

With regard to the proposed reduction of our community nurses, we are being promised by Prime Minster Gordon Brown that the residents of old people's homes are to be protected by the Human Rights Act for the first time in a significant change in the law.

Regarding the recent front page of the Maldon Standard about the street lighting and the vandalism in King Street, may I say that it is good to see councillor Brenda Keighley supporting the residents.

In a world overburdened with escalating, and often pointless, bureaucracy and declining common sense, it was sad to read about the closure of Swift Kids Club (Standard, October 3).

As the voluntary organisation, which since 1972 has been representing older people living in and around the Dengie Hundred, we are most disappointed by the decision of Maldon District Council to reject the plan for a one-stop- shop in Burnham.

Following discussions with leading councillors from both authorities, it appears to me that Maldon District Council will not just be using the services of Chelmsford Council, but the councils will merge into one.

I was very disappointed to read in the Burnham Standard that the innovative plan to provide a one-stop-shop for community services has been rejected by the South Eastern area planning committee.
