HEYBRIDGE & LANGFORD WI

National Federation of Women's Institutes members were welcomed to the March meeting, which also saw three new members joining.

There is a new crossword out, with a list for members to put their names down on, as well as a list for an outing to Little Myles Cosmetic, at Stondon Massey, in June.

The national raffle tickets are available price £1 each.

There is a county-style day on May 16 at Hatfield Peverel village hall from 10.30am to 3pm.

Our speaker was Mrs Sheila Gunson, who demonstrated how to "iris fold", a craft originating in Holland She had brought pictures which she had done, before members tried to make one. These "irises" are made with old envelopes which have a colour inside and a pattern, which you have to cut into strips and are placed on a diagram that is numbered.

The materials you require are sellotape, ruler and scissors.

This was very fiddly to do.

The competition was a shopping bag made from recycled materials.

Mrs W Guinever was first, Mrs B Barbrook second and Mrs R Collins third.

Flower of the month: 1 Mrs P Burton, 2 Mrs R Balaam, 3 Mrs J Smith.

The next meeting is on April 2 with Mr Martyn Harrison on "A-Z of the Musicals", and the competition is a paper flower made by a member.

There is an ACWW collection.
