UNITED REFORMED CHURCH
Danbury members joined with members of their sister churches of Great Baddow and Howe Green for a service at Howe Green URC, led by our joint minister Rev. Jon Sermon.
We were all welcomed by Pam Knott who told us that they enjoyed hosting our joint service.
Jon Sermon reminded us that the last of our present series of bible studies was to take place on the following day, and he would like feedback for suitable time slots and dates for future bible studies. He also promoted an Ignite Day that he is running on Saturday March 1 at the Church of Our Saviour in Chelmer Village.
Jon opened with the words from Psalm 100 Sing to the Lord all the world, acknowledge that the Lord is God and then the hymn My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness. Jon had prepared for us an audio visual presentation entitled Outrageous Grace. Following the hymn Meekness and Majesty bible passages were read from Jeremiah and Matthew. He told us that might have noticed the link between these two passages, that Jeremiah had written about the time to come when God will make a new covenant, and Matthew wrote about the new covenant brought to us by Jesus, Jon explained that a covenant is a sort of agreement between God and his people. Jon concluded by saying that it is outrageous grace that God gives himself so we are forgiven. Jon then celebrated a service of Holy Communion.
We shall be back in our own church in Danbury next Sunday, when our service will again be led by our minister Rev. Jon Sermon at the usual time of 9.45am.
