Sacha Baron Cohen is set to target the James Bond film series with a spy spoof.

Following his previous big-screen outings poking fun at pop culture, Kazakhstan, fashion and dictators, the British funnyman is said to have sold a pitch for a spy movie to Paramount with Cedar Rapids writer Phil Johnston, reported Variety.

It is not yet confirmed if he would star in the upcoming film, but it is expected that he would since he has featured in the previous projects he has written.

The story is rumoured to centre around a Bond-like spy, who is forced to go on the run with his football hooligan brother, a role Sacha is tipped to take.

Sacha - whose fictional alter-egos include rapper Ali G, Kazakhstani journalist Borat, gay fashionista Bruno and dictator Admiral General Aladeen - will next star in Tom Hooper's Les Miserables as rowdy bar owner Thenardier, with Helena Bonham Carter as his screen wife.

The 40-year-old, who now lives in Los Angeles with wife Isla Fisher and their two daughters, is also tipped to portray the late Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in a forthcoming biopic.
