Rain plays havoc with fixtures

THE recent deluge of rain led to another weekend of inactivity for Maldon’s cricketers.

Jimmy Ainscough’s side were left frustrated by a second cancellation, this time at Exning.

It came hot on the heels of their scheduled Marshall Hatchick Two Counties Championship opener at Elmstead Grasshoppers falling foul of the weather on April 21.

The division one side will now hope to get their season up and running on Saturday, when they welcome Coggeshall to Drapers Farm.

It is the first of two scheduled Essex derbies on consecutive weekends, with Mistley set to visit on May 12.

Unsurprisingly, given the soggy conditions, it also turned out to be a blank weekend for the club’s second and third teams.

Maldon twos had been due to entertain St Margarets, in division five, while in division eight the third team were set to visit Coggeshall.

However, both matches were victims of the weather.

The twos go to Kelvedon and Feering this weekend, with the third team due to entertain Felixstowe.

Sunday’s PiriPiri North Essex League division one trip to Great Bromley was cancelled but Maldon will be hoping to start a cup run this weekend, when they head to Great Horkesley for the first round of the PiriPiri Knockout Cup.
